The public is invited to attend a special event held at the Knox County Regional Airport on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Airport leadership will celebrate the new Becker Mining Systems Aviation Education Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. and other activities for the community.
This event marks the dedication of the airport?s new 10,000-square-foot hangar?a major investment in the future of aviation, education and community involvement in Knox County. The new center will house and de-ice jets; serve as home to the growing Civil Air Patrol unit; and provide meeting space for FFA, 4-H, The Ohio State University Extension programs and other community organizations and civic events.
The June 27 Open House event will feature static aircraft displays, plane rides, flight simulator experience, a flyover during the dedication ceremony, food trucks, touch-a-truck activities, giveaways from local businesses and much more for adults and children alike. Free parking will be available, with volunteers directing traffic throughout the day. Several special guests will be on hand for the spoken part of the event program, beginning at 11 a.m., including Senator Andrew Brenner, Representatives Mark Hiner and Beth Lear, and Mount Vernon Mayor Matt Starr.
?The airport?s hangars are full, while aviation activity continues to grow with an extended runway and refurbished terminal. Whether you?re an aviation enthusiast, curious about flight or simply looking for a great family afternoon, this is your chance to see what?s happening at the Knox County Airport, and why it matters to the future of our community,? explained Mark Fritz, airport authority board member and event co-chair.
The Knox County Regional Airport Authority is committed to supporting economic development, aviation access, education and community engagement throughout Knox County and central Ohio. The airport is home to a growing general aviation community with fully occupied hangars and a significant waiting list. Experiencing approximately 50 aircraft landings and takeoffs daily, the airport serves as an active transportation hub connecting Knox County to the broader region. The airport?s newly constructed Becker Mining Systems Aviation Education Center further expands its role as a community asset. Through continued growth and public outreach, the airport aims to introduce residents to one of Knox County?s most valuable yet often overlooked resources.
